Portugal Ministry Infrastructure – While NPOdev was in Portugal on its May 2010 trip an opportunity was presented by Alfredo Abreu, Comunicação e Desenvolvimento Diretor (Communication and Development Director) for Sociedade Bíblica (Bible Society-Portugal).
Many ministries and social outreaches in Portugal are feeling the same affects of the global economic crisis that the rest of the world is. This has led to a lack of resources. Specifically, Portuguese outreaches have a need for infrastructure. People infrastructure. Knowledge infrastructure. Technological infrastructure. And business process and strategy infrastructure. All, in order to become self-sustainable entities that can accomplish their missions with more effectiveness and through better stewardship.
NPOdev has partnered with ASPEC (Associação dos Empresários e Profissionais Cristãos), Sociedade Bíblica (Bible Society-Portugal), and Teófilos, in order to informally and formally assess the needs. From this assessment a solution will be derived, implemented, evaluated, and maintained/sustained. In all this project will pass through five phases in which the people of Portugal and their ministries will be at the core. As with most international projects there must be local buy-in, local ownership, ground-level involvement in order for a project to succeed. Success in this project will be defined as a solution that is self-sustainable, relevant, leap-frogs to current standards, and creates tangible results on the outreaches missions.
